Machines cannot sustainably reproduce To regenrate means to reproduce, to continue a structrure, the DNA that encodes the phylogenity of a species, via a process, the replication of DNA through the various reproductive strategies tha thave evolved. So can artificial inteligence re create this process. When a machine breaks down it requires a human to step in and fix it. the ultimate goal of AI would be to self reproduction. Is this possible using the chemical stucure that is not biological. that is not DNA. the goal of DNA is to combat the inexorable constraint of entropy.
